- 1992 - Maersk Oil signed an Exploration & Production Sharing Agreement (EPSA) with Qatar Petroleum to develop the field
- 1994 - Oil production from the field commenced initially from temporary offshore facilities
- 1998 - these were supplemented by permanent production facilities at three locations
- 2001 - New field development plan
- 2004 - The facilities were expanded with three additional platform locations
- 2005 - Qatar Petroleum and Maersk Oil Qatar Agree on Further Development
- 2006 - Al-Shaheen Oil Field Gas Recovery and Utilization Project launched
- 2010 - FSO Asia delivered
- 2010 - The field produces its 1 Billionth barrel of oil
- 2010 - Contract signed for FSO Africa
- 2017 - Total became a partner by acquiring Maersk
