- 2006 - Kitimat LNG Terminal received its environmental assessment certificate from the BC Environmental Assessment Agency and was granted federal environmental approval for a regasification terminal.
- 2008 - Kitimat LNG received its Provincial Environmental Certificate
- 2009 - Kitimat LNG received its Federal Environmental Certificate
- 2011 - The National Energy Board (NEB or the Board) announced that it will hold a public hearing to consider an application submitted by KM LNG Operating General Partnership (KM LNG) for a 20-year licence to export natural gas in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
- 2011 - Kitimat LNG partners awarded KBR the Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) contract for the facility
- 2011 - Encana acquires a 30% interest in the project
- 2011 - The National Energy Board grants a 20 year export licence to the project
- 2012 - Chevron acquires Encana & EOG's share of the project
- 2013 - Chevron acquisition completed
- 2014 - Fluor and JGC Awarded EPC Contract
- 2014 - Apache announces sale of stake to Woodside
