+++ Ongoing Projects/Project Status

  • Kitimat LNG Inc. expects to the FID for Kitimat LNG Terminal train 1 in 2012,
  • Commercial operation beginning at the end of 2016
  • Kitimat LNG received its Provincial Environmental Certificate for the liquefaction terminal in December 2008 and the Federal Environmental Certificate in January 2009.
  • the FEED for the project has been awarded in March 2011


+++ Suppliers / Customers

  • Suppliers: The terminal will take delivery of gas via a pipeline lateral, approximately 15 kilometres long, from the Pacific Trail Gas Pipelines, which will be connected to the existing Spectra Energy’s West Coast Energy Gas Pipeline.
  • Customers:
    • The terminal offers a short route to important Asian customers
    • Gas Natural, based in Spain, had tentatively agreed to buy 30% of the production from the terminal, while Korea Gas Corp had expressed interest in an additional 40%. However, these are MOUs, not purchase agreements

  • 2006 - Kitimat LNG Terminal received its environmental assessment certificate from the BC Environmental Assessment Agency and was granted federal environmental approval for a regasification terminal.
  • 2008 - Kitimat LNG received its Provincial Environmental Certificate
  • 2009 - Kitimat LNG received its Federal Environmental Certificate
  • 2011 - The National Energy Board (NEB or the Board) announced that it will hold a public hearing to consider an application submitted by KM LNG Operating General Partnership (KM LNG) for a 20-year licence to export natural gas in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
  • 2011 - Kitimat LNG partners awarded KBR the Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) contract for the facility
  • 2011 - Encana acquires a 30% interest in the project
  • 2011 - The National Energy Board grants a 20 year export licence to the project
  • 2012 - Chevron acquires Encana & EOG's share of the project
  • 2013 - Chevron acquisition completed
  • 2014 - Fluor and JGC Awarded EPC Contract
  • 2014 - Apache announces sale of stake to Woodside

  • The terminal was originally concieved of as a regasification terminal.
  • If completed it will be Canada's first LNG export terminal
