- 1966 - Refinery is commissioned with 45,000 bpd capacity
- 1974 - Capacity increased to 650,000 bpd, making it the largest refinery in the world
- 1981 - The original crude unit was converted into a visbreaker
- 1993 - Addition of FCC
- 2002 - Coker commissioned
- 2007 - Clean gasoline project completed
- 2011 - Refinery capacity reduced to 350,000 bbl / day
- 2012 - HOVENSA Announces Closure of St. Croix Refinery
- 2014 - Atlantic Basin Refining agrees to acquire the refinery
- 2018 - Agreement signed to restart refinery
