Crude Supply

  • It is directly connected to the North Sea oil fields via the Forties Pipeline System, from which it sources the majority of its crude oil at a significant freight advantage versus its competitors
  • It is also connected to its own deep water terminal at Finnart on the west coast of Scotland via which it imports alternative crudes (North Sea, Russia and Africa etc)

History

  • 1924 - Grangemouth refinery production begins
  • 1981 - the commissioning of an alkylation unit
  • 1987 - Explosion and Fire in the Hydrocracker Complex
  • 2000 - FCC closed after fire
  • 2004 - FCC brought back on line after revamp
  • 2005 - BP sold the refinery to Ineos
  • 2011 - Petrochina takes a share in Ineos refining and trading business
  • 2013 - Major strike & Evaluation of the refinery's future
