Damietta SEGAS LNG Terminal

Status: In Operation

The first LNG terminal to be opened in Egypt. It has a large capacity, and was designed to serve the European market.

Storage capacity: two tanks, with a capacity of 150,000 cubic metres each
Constructor:
- **Chiyoda:** FEED + Acid gas removal
- **Halliburton KBR, JGC Corporation, MW Kellogg and Tecnicas Reunidas SA:** Engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning assistance services
- **Saipem:** LNG Tanks Construction
Licensor: Air Products.

2000 - BP Amoco and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) signed an agreement to build the terminal
2001 - BP signed an LNG agreement with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and Eni
2001 - Turnkey contract for project awarded to JGC, KBR and Tecnicas Reunidas
2004 - Terminal came on stream
2004 - Supply agreement signed with BP
2012 - The terminal was closed down due to a lack of sufficient gas
2021 - The terminal was commissioned for the second time, thanks to increased gas supply

Suppliers: The Damietta plant is fuelled by the Egyptian national network with gas coming mainly from some offshore Mediterranean reservoirs in which the IEOC, Eni's Egyptian subsidiary, is a partner, and from other reservoirs run by BG/Petronas
Sufficient gas became available to restart the terminal thanks to the Zohr Gas Field which came onstream in 2017
Customers: The gas was initially being sent to Spain, where is was received at the [[[Sagunto LNG Terminal]]] and fed to the grid.
