British model wins leading role... just three weeks after moving to Hollywood

With thousands of wannabe starlets making the move to Hollywood each year, it's hard to get a break in the movie business.

But British model Jaala Pickering is already being billed as the next big thing, after landing a starring role in a new feature film - just three weeks after touching down in Los Angeles.

The 27-year-old will make her debut as the lead role of Maria in new film Dam999.

The movie is tipped to be the next milestone from India following the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire.

And there's no doubt Cornish-born Jaala will be getting a lot of attention for the film.


The actress, who is a film production graduate, began her career as a model and television host.

Talent: Jaala graduated from Salford University and moved to Hollywood in 2010


She has played lead roles in A Brief History of Women and The Humdrummer.

Dam999 was filmed in Alleppey, Kerala, and is a tribute to the 250,000 people who lost their lives in the 1975 Banqiao Dam disaster in China.

The 3D film is directed by Sohan Roy and produced by BizTV Network UAE.

An assortment of Indian and international actors represent the ancient Indian concept of Navarasas, or the nine human emotions.

The concepts of Ayurveda as well as lost love are also explored against the backdrop of a dilapidated colonial dam.

Dam999 is due for release in April 2011.
