Brief Description

  • A large single train liquefaction terminal with four storage tanks
  • Angola Soyo LNG also has storage tanks with a capacity of 88 000 m3 of propane, butane 59 000 m3 and 108 000 m3 of condensate, a marine terminal dedicated to shipping such products and a second terminal for butane to supply the domestic market

  • Constructor:
    • A joint venture team of KBR, JGC Corporation of Japan and Technip: FEED
    • Bechtel: Performing engineering, procurement, and construction on the onshore portion of a broad $8 billion gas program that also includes floating production storage and operations vessels, pipelines to the LNG plant, and LNG tankers.
    • Saipem: Construction of 5 tanks (2 LNG, 1 propane, 1 butane and 1 condensate)
    • Freyssinet: LNG Tank post-tensioning
    • Acergy: Nearshore/onshore segment of the pipeline network
  • Licensor: Conocophillips

  • Suppliers: Offshore Oil and Gas Fields including CLOV Oil And Gas Fields, Kaombo Oil and Gas Fields
  • Customers: The original plan is that LNG from Angola will be exported primarily to a regasification terminal in Mississipi. Whether this will remain viable is questionable.

History

  • 2002 - Total, Norsk Hydro, BP, Esso, Chevron and Sonangol signed a participation agreement
  • 2005 - A joint venture team of KBR, JGC Corporation of Japan and Technip were awarded a Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) contract
  • 2007 - Final investment decision was made
  • 2008 - Bechtel starts construction
  • 2008 - Acergy awarded pipeline contract
  • 2011 - GAC Global Hub Services (GHS) awarded contract for worldwide ship agency services chartered vessels
  • 2012 - GE Oil & Gas signed a long-term contractual service agreement (CSA)
  • 2013 - Chevron Confirms First Cargo
  • 2014 - Production suspended for a year due to technical problems

Other Information

  • In addition to LNG, the project will produce liquefied petroleum gas such as propane and butane; condensate; and domestic pipeline gas.
  • The terminal utilises Conocophillips LNG technology
  • GAC Global Hub Services (GHS) will serve as the provider of a variety of worldwide ship agency services for ALSS's chartered vessels to transport the LNG
