Description

  • The Penguins field was originally connected to the Brent Charlie platform via a sub-sea pipeline
  • A redevelopment is underway which will use the Penguins FPSO a cylindrical vessel with production capacity of 45,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day with storage capability of up to 400,000 barrels
  • Oil will be transported via tanker to refineries, and gas will be transported via the Far North Liquids and Associated Gas System (Flags) Pipeline to the St Fergus gas terminal in northeast Scotland.

Redevelopment

  • Fluor: Engineering, procurement and fabrication of the floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel
  • Subsea7: The engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract incorporates the fabrication of two Pipeline Bundles containing pipe-in-pipe production flowlines, gas lift flowlines and control systems. Additionally, this award includes the fabrication of a 9km 16” gas export pipeline, flexible riser system, dynamic umbilical riser system and associated subsea tie-ins.

History

  • 1974 - Penguins oil field discovered
  • 2001 - Field development approval granted
  • 2002 - First oil produced
  • 2017 - Field closed due to decommissioning of Brent Charlie
  • 2018 - Shell took the final investment decision to redevelop the Penguins oil and gas field
  • 2021 - Exxon sells its stake to HitecVision
