Crude Supply

  • Crude oil is delivered to the El Paso refinery via a 450-mile crude oil pipeline owned and operated by Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, (Kinder Morgan).
  • The system handles both sweet (WTI) and sour (WTS) crude oil.

Products Produced

  • gasoline, distillates, heavy fuel oil, asphalt and propane

Projects

  • The company developed the Delaware Basin System, to increase logistics capacity for crude for the refinery
  • A 40 Mile crude pipeline was constructed to supply Shale Oil to the refinery

History

  • 1928 - The "North" refinery was originally built by Standard Oil of California
  • 1931 - The "South" refinery was originally built by the Texas Company
  • 1972 - The North Refinery was subsequently modernized with the addition of a naphtha hydrotreater, catalytic reformer and sulfur plant
  • 1993 - The refinery was originally two facilities but the operations of the two plants were combined
  • 2017 - Tesoro acquired the refinery when it bought Western Refining
  • 2018 - Marathon Petroleum acquired the refinery when it bought Andeavor
