Brief Description

  • The refinery is a large medium complexity plant, that processes Domestic & Arab Light Crude Oil
  • The crude is supplied via an undersea pipeline from Saudia Arabia.

  • The base oil plant is one of the largest of its kind in the world with an annual capacity of 400,000 tonnes

History

  • 1936 - The Bahrain Refinery - with a capacity of 10,000 barrels per day - opened
  • 1968 - Bahrain Refinery expansion programme completed with 250,000 barrel-a-day capacity
  • 1997 - The Bahrain Government assumes 100% ownership of the Bahrain Refinery
  • 2001 - Kerosene Merox units commissioned as part of the Refinery Modernisation Plan
  • 2004 - JGC awarded Hydrocracker contract
  • 2005 - Foster Wheeler Awarded refinery gas desulfurization (RGD) project
  • 2007 - Start-up of Low Sulphur Diesel Production complex, constructed by JGC.
  • 2008 - BAPCO established a joint venture with Finland’s Neste Oil Corporation to build a high-quality lubricant base oils plant
  • 2013 - Technip awarded SRU contract
