Description
- The Elgin and Franklin fields started producing in 2001 and account for 7% of the UK’s production. These are high pressure high temperature fields whose exploitation requires strong technological expertise.
- Both fields have their own wellhead platform with production from the fields being processed through one central facility –- a production/utilities/quarters (PUQ) platform located on the Elgin field
- At the time of development, the Elgin/Franklin project constitutes the largest high-pressure/high-temperature development in the world (particularly high pressures of 1,100 bars and temperatures of 200° centigrade) and the deepest reservoirs ever put into production in the North Sea (approximately 5,500 meters).
- Gas is transported by the [[[Shearwater-Elgin Area Line (SEAL) Gas Pipeline]]] to the [[[Bacton Gas Plant]]]
- Liquid condensate from the fields is transported to shore via the existing [[[Forties Pipeline System]]] and on to Kinneil for processing
