Brief Description
- The St. Charles Refinery's major process units were built in the early 1980s or later, making this refinery one of the newest in the United States
- It is one of Valero's most complex refineries
Refining Units
- Atmospheric Distillation
- delayed coker - 60,000-BPD
- alkylation unit - 13,000-BPD
- fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) that includes a flue-gas scrubber - 90,000-BPD
- continuous catalytic regenerating (CCR) reformer - 25,000-BPD
Terminal Capacity
- Crude Oil:
- Refined Products:
Crude Supply
- Access to the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP) where it can receive crude oil through pipeline or from five marine docks along the Mississippi River
Products Produced
- Gasoline, distillates and other light products represent approximately 80 percent
- Products can be distributed via the Colonial Oil Products Pipeline, Bengal Oil Products Pipeline and Plantation Oil Products Pipeline
Projects
- A 25,000 bpd Alkylation unit is being constructed. Completion is planned for 2020
- The refinery was upgraded with the addition of a Hydrocracker in 2013
Other Information
-
History
- 2002 - Continuous catalytic regenerating (CCR) reformer commissioned
- 2003 - Acquired by Valero with the purchase of Orion
- 2008 - Fluor awarded engineering, procurement, construction and construction management services contract, for upgrade project
- 2011 - Air Products announces contract to Supply Additional Hydrogen following the upgrade
- 2018 - Alkylation project started
