1961 - Murphy Oil acquired the refinery
2003 - The ROSE unit was destroyed in a fire
2003 - Murphy expanded the refinery allowing the refinery to meet low-sulfur gasoline specifications which became effective January 1, 2008.
The expansion included a new hydrocracker unit, central control room and two new utility boilers; expansion of the crude oil processing capacity to 125,000 barrels per stream day (b/sd); expansion of naphtha hydrotreating capacity to 35,000 b/sd; expansion of the catalytic reforming capacity to 32,000 b/sd; and construction of a new sulfur recovery complex, including amine regeneration, sour water stripping and high efficiency sulfur recovery.
ABB was responsible for engineering, procurement and construction for the project
2005 - the Meraux, Louisiana refinery and associated assets were severely damaged by flooding and high winds caused by Hurricane Katrina.
2006 - Following a nine months shut-down for repairs the refinery was restarted
2010 - Murphy announced that it was to exit the downstream business
2011 - Murphy announced it was selling the refinery to Valero
