+++ Description

  • The South Pars Gas Field contains about 50% of Iran's gas resources and is regarded as the largest offshore gas field in the world. This monumental field is located 100 kilometers from the southern coast in the Persian Gulf and is a joint property of Iran and Qatar.
  • The first excavations on this field were performed in 1990 with seismic data and results confirming the existence of gas there. The Iranian share of this field is an area of 3700 square kilometers and according to conducted estimations consists of 14.2 trillion cubic meter of gas (equal to 8% of the world's resources) and more than 18 billion barrels of condensates.
  • The field is being developed in phases, with different international partners
* Phase 1
* Phase 2&3:
 * TotalFinaElf (operator, 40%) and partners Gazprom (30%) and Petronas (30%)
 * Consists of 20 wells tied into two unmanned platforms
* Phase 4 & 5:
 * ENI
 * The development includes two platforms in about 60 meters of water, 24 gas production wells, an onshore gas process plant, two marine sealines of a length of 100 kilometers and a diameter of 32"
* Phase 6,7,8:
 * Statoil
 * The development consists of 3 wellhead platforms linked by the same number of pipelines to the land-based gas treatment plant
  • Gas is piped to the onshore [[[Assaluyeh Gas Processing Plants]]]
  • In Qatar, it is called the [[[North Gas Field]]]
