Summary Information Ownership: Saras SPA Website: http://www.saras.it/ Location: The Southwestern coast of Sardinia Capacity: 15 million tons/annum & 300,000 bbl/day Nelson Complexity: 9.2 Refining Depth: 80%+ Brief Description A very large high conversion capacity refinery, with a high export sales percentage. The refinery employs a gasification unit to generate electricity from residual product Refining Units Atmospheric Distillation, 300,000 Vacuum Distillation, 105,000 Visbreaking, 41,000 Distillate Cracking (FCC), 86,000 Cat Reforming (CCR), 29,000 Distilliate Hydrocracking, 115,000 Hydrotreating, 107,000 Alkylation, 8,000 Oxygenates (TAME), 7,000 Hydrogen/PSA (MMcfd), 62,000 Terminal Capacity Crude Oil: Refined Products: Crude Supply Saras is able to refine different types of crude oil, including cheaper qualities (such as heavy sour) and unconventional crude oils with specific characteristics (paraffinic, acidic, etc.), obtaining quality oil products (such as low-environmental-impact gasoline and diesel), with superior refining margins. Crude comes from Libya, Russia, the North Sea and The Middle East Products Produced LPG, Gasoline, Diesel, Jet Fuel, Sulphur & Fuel Oil The majority of heavy refining residues is sent to the IGCC plant Ongoing Projects Saras is revamping its Hydrocracker to upgrade of the mild hydrocracker's capacity, performance and conversion See Sarroch Refinery Upgrade Project Other Information - History 1965 - The Sarroch refinery commissioned by Snamprogetti with a capacity of 135,000 bpd 1968 - A new topping plant and fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) plant are added 1970 - The Alkylation unit and a sewage treatment plant begin operation 1983 - A visbreaking unit (45,000 bl/day) and a vacuum plant (60,000 bl/day)are built 1984 - A new reforming (CCR) plant enters operation (30,000 bl/day) 1992 - A new mild hydrocracking plant (MHC) enters operation (70,000 bl/day) 2007 - Upgrading of some refinery key units successfully completed 2012 - Rosneft and Saras Sign Agreement on Establishing a JV 2013 - Rosneft acquires a minority stake 2015 - Rosneft disposes of 9% to the market Relevant Links Refinery Webpage Saipem Grass Roots Refineries Saipem Alkylation Units Saipem Hydrocracking Units Saipem Visbreaking Units Saipem Sulphur Block Units Saipem Vacuum Distillation Units Foster Wheeler Awarded Contract by Saras for Refinery Revamp in Italy Rosneft and Saras Sign Agreement on Cooperation for the Purpose of Establishing a JV Rosneft completes acquisition of minority stake in Saras S.p.A.
