Description

• Rhum started production in 2005 and is a subsea gas field which is tied back to the Bruce Oil and Gas Field in the central North Sea
• It is a challenging high-pressure, high temperature (HPHT)
• Gas is transported via the Frigg UK Gas Pipeline System to the FUKA St Fergus Gas Processing Terminal

History

• 2002 - AMEC awarded FEED contract
• 2003 - Project development approved by UK Government
• 2003 - Saipem awarded pipeline contract
• 2010 - BP Suspends Production from Rhum Gas Field
• 2013 - The UK government allows the restart of the field
• 2018 - Serica becomes the operator of the fields after acquiring a stake from BP

Geology

• The Rhum reservoir consists of fine-grained Upper Jurassic turbidite sands deposited over a tilted fault block.
• The produced gas has an H2S content of 10-20ppm and a CO2 content of 4-8.5%, and as such is classified as both ‘sour’ and corrosive.
