+++ Description

  • The Anadarko-operated Offshore Area 1 covers approximately 2.6 million acres in the deepwater Rovuma Basin. Anadarko and its partners have drilled 10 successful wells on the block (nine in the Prosperidade complex).
  • These successful wells have encountered substantial natural gas pay, ranging from 34 to 169 net meters in multiple high-quality reservoirs.
  • The Prosperidade complex holds an estimated 17 to 30+ Tcf of estimated recoverable resources (30 to 50+ Tcf of estimated resource in place)
  • The gas will be used to supply the Mozambique LNG Terminal

+++ History

  • 2006 - Anadarko, signed an oil and natural gas Exploration and Production Concession Contract (EPCC) with the Government of the Republic of Mozambique for Area 1 in the Rovuma Basin, northern Mozambique
  • 2010 - Anadarko Announces a number of Deepwater Discoveries Offshore Mozambique
  • 2011 - Anadarko makes more discoveries
  • 2011 - Anadarko announces that it is working on an LNG Project to monetise the reserves

+++ Geology

  • The Barquentine exploration well encountered a total of more than 416 net feet of natural gas pay in multiple high-quality sands. Specifically, the discovery well encountered more than 308 net feet of pay in two Oligocene sands that are separate and distinct geologic features, but age-equivalent to those encountered in Anadarko's previously announced Windjammer discovery.
  • The well also found an additional 108 net feet of natural gas pay in the Paleocene sands.
  • This deeper pay appears to be part of the same accumulation as the 75 net feet of pay that was encountered at the Windjammer discovery, located 2 miles to the southwest.
