Brief Description

  • Prelude is a floating facility. The dimensions of Shell’s FLNG facility are approximately 480 by 75 metres, and when fully ballasted, the FLNG facility will weigh around 600,000 tonnes. The platform will be the largest ship ever built
  • The Prelude Gas Field is located in the Browse Basin, northeast of Broome Western Australia, in water depths of approximately 820 feet (250 meters)

History

  • 2009 - Shell awarded a consortium of Technip and Samsung Heavy Industries the contract for the design, construction and installation of multiple FLNG facilities over a period of up to 15 years, based upon Shell’s proprietary design. Shell is planning for the first of these facilities to be deployed at the Prelude FLNG Project.
  • 2010 - Environmental approval obtained
  • 2011 - Final investment decision taken
  • 2011 - Technip / Samsung launch design process
  • 2012 - Nexus non-binding HOA with Shell & Osaka Gas to join project
  • 2012 - Inpex agrees to acquire a 17.5% participating interest in the project
  • 2012 - Major construction begins on the Prelude FLNG project
  • 2013 - Inpex signs loan agreement with JBIC
  • 2013 - The hull is completed
  • 2019 - First LNG cargo was shipped
