With 2018 almost over, it is time to raise a glass in celebration and look ahead to a fresh new year - and it is no different for the world's top sports stars.
The world is preparing to see in the New Year, some earlier than others, and a whole host of big names have been taking to social media to reminisce and look ahead.
One of the first to see in 2019 will be [/news/new_zealand/index.html New Zealand] and then Australia, currently home to some big names from the world of rugby and tennis.
Cristiano Ronaldo, his son, and girlfriend took a spectacular picture with the Dubai fireworks
Rafael Nadal, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Andy Murray, Kei Nishikori and Nick Kyrgios are in Brisbane
Murray also posted this snap, noting: 'Celebrating the end of 2018.

With the season soon to begin for the likes of Andy Murray, he and his fellow tennis stars are in Brisbane preparing for January's Australian Open.
As they will be some of the first to hit the New Year, the celebrations started early with some extravagant sunglasses, shaped into the numbers 2019.
In a picture posted to Murray's Instagram account, he, Rafael Nadal, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Kei Nishikori and footballandcricketonline.blogspot.com Nick Kyrgios laughed as they wore the glasses as well as some 'Happy New Year' hats.
Murray later took to Instagram again, surrounded by bottles of alcohol for a tongue-in-cheek photo.
Alongside it, he wrote: 'Celebrating the end of 2018.

What a s*** year that was!'
A short flight across the Tasman Sea in New Zealand, a whole host of All Blacks rugby stars were also getting in on the act. 
Fit-again Murray donned a pair of exceptional glasses as midnight approached Down Under
Boxing superstar Deontay Wilder enjoyed some downtime and welcomed in the new year
Real Madrid and France ace Raphael Varane spent time with nearest and dearest at midnight
In New Zealand, All Blacks rugby star Rieko Ioane was partying with his friends to finish 2018
There were also some gold balloons helping the tennis stars celebrate the start of 2019
All Blacks legend Dan Carter raised a toast while Ioane posed at his New Years party
The legendary Dan Carter posted a short video of himself pouring a glass of champagne, while youngster Rieko Ioane was at a party with some of his friends.
Beauden Barret, meanwhile, was reflecting on a huge year in which he got engaged, won the Bledisloe Cup and joined the Red Bull team.

He posted a series of photos to his Instagram page to celebrate 2018.
It was also a family affair for Lionel Messi, whose wife Antonella Roccuzzo posted a loving snap to Instagram on the 'last Sunday of the year'.
The Barcelona superstar is currently enjoying the La Liga winter break and will be with his wife and children to see in 2019.
Former Barca ace Cesc Fabregas, who is a close friend of Messi, shared an adorable photo of himself and his children. The Chelsea midfielder captioned it: 'A part of our family send you kisses to end the year in the best way possible.

Thanks for your unconditional support throughout 2018'.
PSG sensation Kylian Mbappe was also looking back. He uploaded an edited picture of himself as a boy sat in his bedroom. The original image featured posters of his footballing heroes on the wall, but in this doctored version all the pictures showed Mbappe during his remarkable career to date.

Tennis legend Roger Federer was one of the first people to welcome in the new year, as he's currently in Perth, Australia, competing in the Hopman Cup.

He'll face off against fellow tennis titan Serena Williams in a mixed doubles match on New Year's Day.
He celebrated with his Twitter followers by posting a spinning video, cheering and shouting 'happy new year from Perth, everybody!'
Borussia Dortmund's Mario Gotze was also spotted out partying with his lingerie model partner Ann-Kathrin.
Plus, Arsenal's Henrikh Mkhitaryan had a heartfelt message for his Instagram followers, saying: 'Dear friends, another year in our lives is another chance for us to accomplish the impossible...

to transform our dreams.'

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo made sure to take the most spectacular picture possible, posing with his son and girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez in Dubai in front of a massive fireworks display. 
Other footballers were also celebrating in style, particularly Liverpool's Roberto Firmino, who was colourful alongside his partner as they posed for a picture.
Kevin De Bruyne looked to be having more of a quiet affair alongside friends, while David Silva brought in the new year with his son, who has now recovered after being born prematurely.

Andres Iniesta was having a good time too, as he and wife Anna Ortiz wore yellow hats and partied the night away.
