History

  • The Oberrhein oil refinery is a young company but built on a solid foundation: at the beginning of the 60's the "Raffineriestandort" or Refinery Location Karlsruhe was founded. At that time two neighboring refineries started up - 1962 the Esso Refinery and in 1963 the Refinery Dea Scholven Inc. (as of 1969 Oberrhein Oil Refinery Inc. or OMW for short).
  • In 1997, the two previously independent Karlsruhe refineries, owned by Esso and OMW, merged to form MiRO - Mineralölraffinerie Oberrhein GmbH & Co. KG.
  • 2010 - Rosneft acquires PDVSA's share in Ruhr Oel
  • 2016 - Rosneft acquires BP's stake
