- The Magpie field is situated 50 kilometres to the northeast of Seria. Waterdepths over the field vary between 35 m on the crest and 52 m on the eastern flank
- Production is maintained at some 6,000 barrels a day from its 32 wells, drilled from three platforms, MGDP-1, MGDP-2 & MGDP-3

+++ Geology
- The Magpie structure is a relatively narrow, crescent-shaped anticline, overlying a deep, north-south elongate clay ridge, some 20 kilometres long and 5 kilometres wide.
- The field consists of several fault traps on the northerly plunging nose of the anticlinal uplift. A system of closely spaced, longitudinal faults, subparallel to the anticlinal axis developed to accommodate the strong curvature associated with the central part of the structure.
- On its east flank, a radial fault system, perpendicular to the structural axis, also developed. The Magpie traps are defined by the intersection of these two families of faults. Faults become younger towards the crest, with the youngest creating a hinge collapse graben in the outer arch of the anticline.
- A late stage of transpressional differential uplift of Magpie apparently began in mid-Pliocene times.
