Ongoing Projects/Project Status

  • The final investment decision was taken in January 2011
  • The project recieved environmental approval from the Queensland State Government in May 2010
  • The first cargos were dispatched in 2016


Suppliers / Customers

  • Gas Supply:
    • The terminal will utilise coal seam gas (CSG) resources in the Bowen and Surat Basins in south-east Queensland, including Fairview Coal Seam Methane Gas Field, Arcadia, Roma and Scotia fields
    • Construction of a 420-kilometre gas transmission pipeline from the gas fields to Gladstone
    • Origin will supply GLNG with 365 petajoules (PJ) of gas or 100 terajoules (TJ) per day over 10 years at The [[[Wallumbilla Natural Gas Hub]]], commencing in 2015. The gas will be sourced from Origin’s east coast portfolio
    • The Meridian SeamGas joint venture will supply gas over a 20 year period
  • Customers
    • GLNG has a binding offtake agreement to sell up to three million tonnes of LNG per annum to PETRONAS, which underpins its first LNG train.
    • Total will have the commitment to offtake 1.5 Mt/y of LNG, depending however on the result of ongoing discussions between the GLNG project and several Asian buyers
    • KOGAS has a take off agreement for 3.5 million tons per year.

History

  • May 2008 - Santos announced it had selected PETRONAS, one of the world’s largest LNG producers, to be its 40% partner
  • May 2010 - Fluor Australia was chosen as the preferred contractor for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work on the upstream facilities component of the project.
  • May 2010 - Project recieves environmental approval
  • Sept 2010 - Total acquires 20% of project
  • Oct 2010 - GLNG wins Federal environmental approval
  • Dec 2010 - Kogas signs a take off agreement, and agrees to become a partner in the project
  • Jan 2011 - Final investment decision taken
  • Jan 2011 - Fluor awarded EPC contract for upstream section
  • Jun 2011 - Wood Group Wagners awarded GLNG Pipeline Project Management Contract
  • Jan 2012 - Santos announced capital expenditure increases

  • Gladstone Liquefied Natural Gas is a pioneering project to convert coal seam gas (CSG) to liquefied natural gas, representing a major investment in a cleaner energy source for the future.
  • The Project includes
    • Drilling 2,650 wells over 25 years over 6,800sq km in the Surat and Bowen Basins
    • 435km of 42” diameter steel pipeline from Fairview gas fields to Gladstone
    • Three LNG train facility on Curtis Island with nominal capacity of 10mtpa
    • Export jetty and materials offloading facility on Curtis Island
