Brief Description

• Gate LNG Terminal is the first such terminal in The Netherlands. The terminal has an initial throughput capacity of 12 billion m3 (bcm) per annum and will consist of three storage tanks and two jetty's.

Technical Details

• Storage capacity: four storage tanks, each having a capacity of about 180,000 m³
• Unloading capacity: The jetties have been designed to accommodate a future generation of larger LNG carriers and Qatar max vessels (with a capacity of about 250,000 m³

  • A consortium made up of Techint, Sener, Entrepose and Vinci
  • **Freyssinet:** Pre-stressing for LNG tanks
  • **Tractebel:** Technical assistance for the Development of the Gate LNG terminal in Rotterdam including layout optimisation and finalisation (jetty configuration, building dimensions, LNG pipe routing, ….), storage tank and BOG handling comparison studies, assistance to risk analysis, process optimisation studies, vaporiser selection study, equipment list, noise map

Ongoing Projects/Project Status

• Completed in 2011
• Gasuinie is adding a fourth tank. VINCI Construction Grands Projets - Entrepose Contracting (tank), Sener (balance of plant) and Sacyr Proyecta (owner engineering services) were chosen to execute the expansion of the terminal with a 4th LNG storage tank of 180,000 cubic meters and an additional regasification capacity of 4 BMC per year.

History

• 2007 - Final investment decision taken
• 2008 - Economic Affairs Minister Maria van der Hoeven gave the official green light for the construction of the LNG import terminal
• 2008 - Construction Started
• 2008 - E.ON Ruhrgas committed itself to an annual throughput of 3 billion cubic meters (bcm)
• 2011 - First cargos delivered
• 2011 - Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands officially opens the terminal
• 2012 - Gasunie and Vopak sign agreement with Shell as launching customer for LNG Break Bulk terminal
• 2013 - E.ON signs medium-term LNG supply contract with Qatargas
• 2014 - Fluor selected to construct Break Bulk terminal
• 2023 - Gasunie started a feasibility study on capacity expansion
• 2023 - Contractors chosen for 4th tank project
• 2023 - Shell signs contract with QatarEnergy for LNG to be delivered to Gate Terminal
• 2023 - OMV agrees to buy 0.85 mtpa
