+++ Description

  • Eldfisk is one of the two biggest fields in the Greater Ekofisk Area and have been in production since 1979. The field is located in the southern part of the North Sea, about 300 kilometres from the shore.
  • Oil and gas is transported to [[[Ekofisk Oil Field]]], and from there the gas is transported on the [[[Norpipe Gas Pipeline]]], the oil on the [[[Norpipe Crude Oil Pipeline]]]
  • Eldfisk B is a combined drilling, wellhead and process facility, while Eldfisk A and Eldfisk FTP are wellhead and process facilities connected by a bridge. Eldfisk A also has drilling facilities.
  • In 1999, a new water injection facility, Eldfisk E, was installed. The facility also supplies the Ekofisk field with some injection water through a pipeline from Eldfisk to Ekofisk K.
  • The **Embla field**, located south of Eldfisk, is tied to Eldfisk FTP.
  • The Eldfisk II project will include a new platform (Eldfisk 2/7S) at the Eldfisk complex and substantially upgrade the existing facilities on the Eldfisk field. The new platform will have 40 years design life and a capacity of 70,000 boe per day. It will provide accommodation, new process facilities, and will enable the drilling of 30 production and 9 water injection wells to further develop the Eldfisk field and increase oil recovery. Production start-up is expected in 2015.

+++ Geology

  • The Eldfisk field produces from the Ekofisk, Tor and Hod Formations from the Early Paleocene and Late Cretaceous ages. The reservoir rock is finegrained and dense, but with high porosity. Natural fracturing allows the reservoir fluids to flow more easily. The field consists of three structures: Alpha, Bravo and Øst Eldfisk. The reservoir is at a depth of 2 700 - 2 900 metres.
