Summary Information
- Operator: Shell
- Country: USA
- Location: Mississippi Canyon Block 392, Gulf of Mexico
- Production start: 2019
- Partners: Shell - 80%, Nexen - 20%
- Type: Oil / Gas
- Estimated Reserves:
- Production Volume: Peak production est. 175,000 barrels of oil equivalent (boe) per day
Description
- The Appomattox developmentinitially produced from the **Appomattox** and **Vicksburg** fields
- The Appomattox development host consists of a semi-submersible, four-column production host platform, a subsea system featuring six drill centres, 15 producing wells, and five water injection wells.
- The Mattox Pipeline which was constructed, is a 24-inch corridor pipeline that transports crude oil from Appomattox westward to the Proteus pipeline system (part of the Mardi Gras Offshore Oil and Gas Pipeline System) and then onshore.
- Peak production estimated to reach approximately 175,000 barrels of oil equivalent (boe) per day
- The nearby discoveries at the Gettysburg and Rydberg prospects could be developed via tiebacks
Dover Development
- The development concept for Dover is a subsea tieback to the Shell-operated Appomattox production hub, with two production wells produced through a 17.5-mile flowline and riser.
Contractors
- **FMC Technologies:** Enhanced Vertical Deepwater Trees, subsea manifolds, topside controls, a control system, and a distribution system
- **Oceaneering:** Electro-hydraulic steel tube control umbilicals, totaling approximately 60 kilometers (37 miles)
Dover Development
History
- 2010 - Appomattox Oil Field discovered
- 2012 - Further reserves discovered in the Northern section of the field
- 2013 - Vicksburg oil field discovered
- 2015 - Final investment decision taken
- 2019 - Oil production started
- 2023 - FID for Dover
Geology
- The Appomattox structure is comprised of three large fault blocks in the Norphlet formation, which dates back 150-200 million years ago to the Jurassic period
