Brief Description

  • With a total send-out capacity of 4.0 Bcf/d and 16.8 Bcf of storage capacity the Sabine Pass terminal was the largest receiving terminal, by regasification capacity, in the world

Technical Details

  • Storage capacity:
    • Phase I: Three 160,000 cubic meter storage tanks
    • Phase II: Two 160,000 cubic meter storage tanks
  • Unloading capacity: Two unloading docks capable of handling ships of up to 250,000 cubic meters
  • Send out capacity: 4 Bcf/d
  • Constructor:
    • Bechtel executed a Lump Sum Turnkey Agreement for the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC)
    • Consortium of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Zachry Construction constructed tanks for both phases


Ongoing Projects/Project Status

  • The terminal has been converted from a re-gasification unit to a liquefaction terminal.

  • 2004 - The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved the project
  • 2004 - Bechtel awarded EPC contract for Phase I
  • 2005 - Consortium of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Zachry Construction awarded tank contracts
  • 2006 - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Zachry Construction awarded phase II tank contracts
  • 2008 - Terminal operations start
  • 2009 - Phase II operations start
  • 2010 - Export terminal project launched
