The Project

  • Project Type: Expansion & Upgrade
  • Project Summary: Also known as the Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP), it will increase the Balikpapan refinery’s crude processing capacity as well as enable production of cleaner fuels conforming to Euro 5 standard.

Main Contractors

  • Hyundai Engineering: EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction)
  • Axens: Resid FCC unit with a design capacity of 90,000 BPSD, a LPG sulfur removal unit (SulfrexTM), a Propylene Recovery Unit (PRU) as well a new 80,000 BPSD middle distillate hydrotreater (Prime-DTM). The gasoline produced by the Resid FCC unit will be selectively hydrodesulfurized in a Prime-G+TM unit with a design capacity of 48,000 BPSD to produce ultra-clean gasoline.
  • UOP: licensing and engineering for a CCR Platforming™ unit with a capacity of 33,000 barrels per day to produce cleaner-burning high-octane motor fuels and a Unionfining™ hydrotreating unit with a capacity of 47,000 barrels per day to produce kerosene jet fuel. Expand capacity of its existing Unicracking™ units at Balikpapan to 60,000
  • Air Liquide: Licence and basic engineering for a hydrogen production unit
